Frequently Asked Questions - Jewelry
How often should I have my ring prongs checked?
Ring prongs should be checked once every 3 - 6 months. If the prongs are snagging on clothing, they should also be inspected.
What jewelry cleaner do you recommend for home use?
We recommend using a good quality ultrasonic cleaner which we have available in our showroom for a reasonable cost. Polishing cloths are effective for in-between cleanings. A liquid jewelry cleaner, or sudsy ammonia, is not the most effective but will help remove some dirt.
Can you create something new from my unused jewelry?
Most certainly! We can reuse or repurpose stones, gems, and gold to create a new family heirloom that is unique and treasured.
Should I buy gold or platinum?
Gold is actually harder than platinum so we often recommend gold for daily wear jewelry.
How can you provide such quick turnaround on jewelry repairs?
Ft. Thomas Jewelers employs talented master craftsmen that are available at a moments notice. As a working jewelry studio, we have the latest tools on-site, such as a laser welder, that make the repair time that much faster.
